Too rarely do recent movies exhibit a certain humanness or sensitivity. 50/50 has both. My first time seeing this film I was expecting it to be a comedy, having only seen one trailer and not heard anything else about it. However, it gives the viewers a sense of reality on how life can change in an instance. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Adam) plays a character that is a "regular" guy, mid 20's, who is living with his girlfriend with their own home.
The comedy comes in with his best friend Kyle, who is played by the one and only, Seth Rogen. The comical jokes Kyle makes lightens up the movie. To get to the point, Adam's life changes forever when he discovers he has cancer. He goes through multiple diagnosis, chemotherapy and counseling sessions, and a life or death surgery. We root for Adam not only because he is the center of the film, but because we realize how fragile the difference is between being here one day and gone the next.
If you're looking to watch a movie that has some true value to it or one that is up for Golden Globe Awards, come see 50/50, presented by CAB, at the IMU this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10pm up in the Illinois Room on the third floor! Only $2! Enjoy the movie!!
