Night Hawks: Laser Tag

Ok, so get this. Laser tag in the IMU Main Lounge…nuff said.

This Friday night, December 9th will be one of the coolest things to hit the IMU in quite a while in my opinion; I certainly am a sucker for Laser tag though. I think it might be the darkness, the glow in the dark tarps, or maybe it’s the thrill of having someone hit you with those little laser guns.

Anyway, you should come and bring everyone you know. Gentleman, bring that girl you’ve been stalking in the cafeteria all semester. Ladies, finally ask that guy out who you’ve been checking out in the Cambus since September. It’s the end of semester, have fun and get a break from studying. You all need it.

Oh yeah did I forget to mention a DJ will be in attendance and video games, too? Now that’s a heck of a way to spend a Friday night in Iowa City, folks. So come on, be at the IMU at 10:00 pm on Friday night for lots of fun!

Movie: Friends With Benefits

Friends With Benefits
by Jared Cohen
Friends with Benefits might be the most unrealistic movie out there that could possibly be realistic (think about it).
Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis are stunning in this film about two strangers who meet and they just want to have sex and nothing more, meaning no relationship! I found this movie very comical and down right impracticable because one, the lives they live are unimaginable and two, i could not even start to tell you that this sort of friendship/relationship (whatever you want to call it) is impossible for such a lengthy period of time.
This movie is an excellent choice for a weekend pick. Good news for you, CAB is playing Friends with Benefits on the third floor of the IMU in the Illinois Room this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 pm for a low cost of $2.
This is your chance to see a raunchy comedy movie where you are bound to crack up. Get out of the cold, bring a few friends, and enjoy this vulgar movie!

Movie: Friends With Benefits

Movie: Friends with Benefits
by Ali Woodward

Friends. With. Benefits.

To some this term defines a relationship, but to many a friend with benefits is an unanswered question involving numerous mixed feelings. Having a "friend" that also accompanies "benefits" is a very loose term, and when people think that they can still be friends after this, they can't. Someone always falls for the other. At least that's the case for Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake in the movie Friends With Benefits.

Your favorite campus entertainment source, CAB will be hosting Friends With Benefits this Thursday-Saturday at 10:00 PM in the Illinois Room of the IMU. If you, like me, are uncertain whether friends can remain just friends after so-called "benefiting" from each other, come check out this hilarious and unforgettable movie!

Movie: The Roommate 5/5 - 5/7

So I don’t have a roommate, but I’m a little scared of what the future holds for me when I do get one, I hear they rip belly button rings out, kill boyfriends, and pet your hair…oh wait, that’s just the character from the movie, The Roommate.

This movie consists of some seriously good looking people too, I’m going to see Cam Gigandet….but the gents out there would love this movie because it has Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester in it, even though Leighton Meester is a murdering roommate.

So why not go check it out? It’s the perfect way to end the school year and prepare for finals, it will let you reminisce about all the great experiences you’ve had and scare you enough to stay away from your roommate and study for finals. Enjoy J

COME TAKE A STUDY BREAK AND SEE IT!!! @the Illinois Room, IMU. Thursday May 5-Saturday May 7. 10PM. Cost=$2.00

The best part is that IT IS FREE!!!

Movie: No Strings Attached 4/28/11

A couple weeks ago I got a call from a friend saying that Ashton Kutcher was on campus. I thought it was too good to be true, but I wasn’t being Punk’d.

He was here, and although my daylong search to find him failed epically, there were enough muploads to prove that he did grace The University of Iowa with his presence.

Ever since this day, I have been catching up on all of my favorite Ashton Kutcher movies: Dude Where’s My Car, Valentine’s Day, The Guardian, etc.

And when I went to start putting in my newest DVD to watch No Strings Attached, I got another call from a friend telling me it was going to play this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 p.m. in IMU.

There’s nothing better than watching Ashton on the big screen, so I decided to post-pone watching No Strings Attached for a couple more days.

After all, the tickets are only two dollars. I hope to see you there!

Mission IMPROVable 4/28/11

So did you hear? This Thursday there will be four good looking guys wearing white button downs, black ties, and aviators at the Schaumbaugh Auditorium. Yep, that’s enough to get me on board.

But their cool looks aren’t all they’re good for, they can do IMPROV too!

So cute guys and they’re funny?  Is there a better way to spend a Thursday night on campus? I think not.

Did I mention it’s free? Yes, I know you college students out there love that four letter word.

Not only has this group, Mission IMPROVable, been going strong for 13 years, they were also just named Campus Activities Magazine, “Comedy Act of the Year.”

COME SEE THEM, BRING YOUR FRIENDS! Thursday, April 28 @ 10:00 pm. In the Schaumbaugh Auditorium at the UI Main Library.

Roads: Twins vs Royals Game! 4/30/11

CAB is hitting the road this weekend to see an epic showdown between the Minnesota Twins and the Kansas City Royals! Baseball reminds me sooo much of summer and it’s the perfect activity to jump start it right before I have to bury myself in the library for finals L.

Not only have I been dreaming about the ballpark franks at Kauffman Stadium, but the soft pretzels, and nachos, and dippin’ dots too…… Clearly my favorite part of the game doesn’t have anything to do with seeing Melky Cabrera go 4-4 or Jason Kubel rob a homer in right.

So now my only question is who to cheer for? Even though my heart belongs with the Chicago Cubbies, I guess they can take the back seat for one game….home team advantage has me cheering for the Royals.

If anyone would like to make a friendly wager come find me on Saturday April 30, we depart from the IMU at Noon. Tickets are ONLY $30 so get them ASAP and enjoy the day at the ballpark!!!!

CAB Movie: The King's Speech

When it comes to movies, I usually chose the typical chick flick or romantic comedy, but I recently heard that CAB is showing the award winning film, King’s Speech!
This movie is definitely a step up for me, but I also know that it is also a movie that is worth clearing your schedule and finding two dollars in order to see. My friends and I are getting there early because I think it will be a sellout!
I remember watching the Academy Awards and wondering what QUEEN ELIZABETH was thinking! I mean a movie about her dad just won! (As if they weren't special enough :P)
Its crazy to think about the things King George went through to become so amazing! He was different after all; he had a speech impediment.
Because of his impediment, there was nothing he dreaded more than public speaking. However, upon taking his seat in the British monarchy, the country found itself in the midst of crisis.  All eyes turned to King George VI for answers as England quickly declared war on Germany.
I’ve always been curious about the life of a king and now we get a sneak peak!!!  To watch the trailer for this movie click:
So I will save you a seat in the Illinois Room at the IMU at 10pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (and don't forget the $2 and your own snacks)

Dive-In Movie: Cast Away

WILSON!!!!

This, my friends, is probably the most memorable line of Castaway. Personally the scene itself brought a tear to my eye. However that didn't stop me from watching the movie 6 times. No Joke.

Luckily the one and only CAB will be bringing Castaway (staring Tom Hanks) to the CWRC as a part of the dive in movie.

This is a free event and what can be better than watching Castaway while lounging in the leisure pool? I would highly recommend buying a smoothie too. mmmm tasty.

And i bet you didn't know Tom Hanks had to lose 55 pounds for the role. I'm super excited to be working this event and hope to see everyone there! you'll be missing out!

See you all there Friday night at 10:30 at the CWRC, for free.

Movie: The Green Hornet

So I was kind of a loser when I was younger, I would make believe I was the villain and my brother was the superhero. (I would be the Joker and he would Batman.)

But anyway enough about me.

Ever wish you could be both the villain while also being the superhero? Go see The Green Hornet! It has fast cars, lots of guns, and some funny guys (aka Seth Rogen and Jay Chou).

I will be there just to see Seth Rogen, but you gents out there might want to go because Cameron Diaz is in the movie.   :D

Come see it!!!
The Green Hornet is playing Thursday April 7th-Saturday April 9th at 10:00 pm
Location: “CABTheater” aka: The Illinois Room (IMU)
Cost: $2.00
Pop: $1.00

CAB NightHawks: Jersey Shore Party

Cabs are here!!!!
It's T-Shirt Time!!!
GTL and MVP

These are just a few of my favorite Jersey Shore moments. Why is this show so addicting! Every week I tune in and laugh at the unbelievable crazy tanned and hair-sprayed characters.

Now CAB is holding its very own Jersey Shore at the IMU! You go dressed as your favorite character from the show because there is a look-a-like contest!!! Great Prizes for winner I'm sure... maybe some free tanning sessions?? HAHA! How cute would it be if a couple came as the Jenny/Ronnie couple (too bad they are broken up, maybe the fake couple will have better luck)

There will be a crazy DJ dropping some awesome fist-pumping beats that you can mosh to because there it is gonna be a highlighter party!!! AHHHHH!!

And everyone loves free stuff so at the part you can make some sweet shutter shades (Oh Yeah) and your very own T-shirt (Oh Yeah) They do work at a T-shirt store and Spring is right around the corner so you can show off your sweet digs.

To get you in the real Spring/Summer mood there is going to be a smoothie bar!!!! And free food of course (did you even have to ask?)

So stop by and win big for a study break at the IMU at 10pm because things are going to get craaazzzyyyyy. :)

CAB Comedy Fridays: Cash Cab's Ben Bailey

Have you ever ridden in a cab? (Probably)
Have you ever gotten kicked out of a cab? (Hopefully Not)
Have you ever gotten kicked out of a cab for not answering questions correctly? (No Way!)

That's what I thought. Me neither.
However, Ben Bailey has never had a problem kicking people out of his taxicab on his TV show, Cash Cab. I love watching people win and lose hundreds of dollars. Makes me smile. (Is that wrong?)

And now the amazing campus activities board is bringing the crazy handsome Ben Bailey here! To the University of Iowa! (The IMU Main Lounge to be exact.) On Friday February 18 I will be front row center for his comedy show laughing so hard I will probably cry.

And how much is this night going to cost me? Nothing of course but this show will be priceless so get there earlier than 10pm for a great seat (Doors open at 9:30 pm). I can even bring all my friends (non UI students too) and they will worship me :) Once again... priceless!

Why should you go? Even if you don't know who he is... he is famous and how often do you get to meet a famous person? And for free! Not that often if you ask me.

Want a bit of a preview? Check out his stand up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WT6tB6U_uc

Variety & Entertainment: Casino Night

Do you know what the temperature is in Vegas right now?
No?
Well it's a heck of a lot better than it is here. That's for sure! :P
Though we can't all go to Vegas in the middle of the semester (unfortunately), you could still be a part of some Vegas action here in IOWA CITY!
That's right, the amazing Campus Activities Board has organized a casino night to bring us a taste of that glamorous Nevada city.
Sooo get ready for a (drumroll please) night in the IMU, surrounded by a variety of tables of poker, blackjack and roulette (my favorite)!!!!
Wait a minute now...there's more!
Don't care about waiting around to play games? Well maybe the word IPAD will peak your interest!
Yes you read that right!!! There's a chance to win an IPAD at this FREE event!! There will also be a variety of other prizes like a $100 Walmart giftcard , watches and other gifts from local businesses.
Still not interested? What about the drag queens?! They will definitely raise your spirits after taking any  quizzes and exams or even after some Valentine's day drama.
If you, like me, are already getting excited for this night then be sure to be there on Thursday, February 17 in the Main lounge of the IMU at 10 pm!! With your friends of course! :)

P.S. Are you an Elvis fan? While CAB may not be able to bring you the real thing, everyone should have a picture with his impersonator at least to  be able to show it off on facebook! ;) Real thing or not, he's still a hunka' hunka' burnin' love.

CAB NightHawks: Speed Dating

OMG I don't think anyone realizes how deep my love for CAB goes! And now CAB is trying help me find a new love at SPEED DATING. A chance to find a valentine in time for Valentine's Day would be perfect. I know there is a guy out there looking for me, and me for him :) Not only are there "dating" tables to find your love, but there are "friendship" tables because I need a few more facebook friends (I'm on the short side).

What goes better with finding a guy than chocolate. Chocolate fountains are my favorite because you can dip and even just fill up a cup of chocolate. (It's better than it sounds.)

But even if I don't find my true love... I AM GOING TO MAKE A CUDDLY SOFT STUFFED ANIMAL! I know that little guy will be there to cuddle and love me every day and night :D

Did I mention this was all free?? Yes because that is how awesome CAB is (hehe). So come see me on Friday at 10pm at the IMU 2nd floor ballroom (especially if you are a guy) and we can have a chat, and maybe get a bite at the chocolate fountain (especially if you are a guy) :D

Can't wait to see you there! (especially if you are a guy) .

An Interview with Member of the Week Tim Unkenholz (Comedy)

What's your favorite piece of furniture?

There's a lazy boy chair at my parent's house that I'm really looking forward to once again be primarily living in for the next month or so. I've missed a lot of lame high school get-togethers sitting in that chair....

I also like ottomans in general. I don't really like the ottoman in my apartment though, it's a little too short for the chair that goes with it. I think I just like the word ottoman. It's a very comfortable sounding word.

Ketchup or Mustard?

Ketchup all the way. I think that any food that is yellow looks unhealthy (with the exception of bananas, which are of course delicious and at one point used to be green).

What's your favorite cartoon from your childhood?

Any of the 90's cartoons that featured a group of brothers who somehow got mutated into anthropomorphic crime fighting animals. I think Ninja Turtles started that whole craze, but I also watched Street Sharks and Biker Mice from Mars.

Also, I just realized how hilarious Winnie the Pooh is.

Hoodies or Zip-Ups?

Here's the thing on the sweater situation CAB, I think I might be some sort of cold-blooded mammal. I have a really hard time regulating my body temperature. I get super hot whenever I'm doing any sort of physical activity, and I sweat profusely (which is why I play basketball shirtless because nobody wants to guard the sweaty guy). At the same time one glass of really cold water makes me shiver uncontrollably. So I go zip-up because it's easier to manage when my body temperature changes.

I have a really nice blue zip-up I wear all the time when I go out and stuff but I don't want to ruin it when I'm at my apartment. I wear this old, grey, stretched out New York hoody around the apartment and occasionally when I make trips to Wal-mart at 3 am to get Oreos. I do love my New York hoody and my blue zip-up equally though. So now you know that whole thing. I’m loving these questions…

What's the best concert you've ever been to?

Probably either the Man Man show I went to a couple years ago or the Fang Island show I went to this past summer. I highly recommend you buy both bands' albums, and you should see them both live before you die!

If you could have any superpower which would you choose?

If we're picking from like the typical superpowers people normally choose from when they answer this sort of question I'd like to be able to multiply myself so I could get more stuff done.

But really I've always wanted to be part of some X-Men-like team and be this guy who's unfortunate mutation is that he just farts unbearably loud. Like I'd have no practical use for the team really, but I'd still have a costume for some reason…does anyone really read this?

What's your favorite (non-Facebook) website?

avclub.com. I'm usually on there at least 10 times a day. Also, my brother and I compose music for eachother on this crappy site called noteflight.com. He's back in Maryland and I usually write him a silly song every week on there and send it to him through Facebook.

Are you pro-Justin Bieber or anti-Justin Bieber?

Pro or against him? I didn't realize there was an ordinance to ban Justin Bieber. I don't particularly like him but I don't want him to be abolished if that's what you’re asking.

The only time I resented Justin Bieber was when this awful open mic host in Cedar Rapids made a joke that I look like him. First off that's a real stretch I think. When I was 16 I looked like a pimply faced piece of crap. Also, the truckers in Cedar Rapids hit on me enough, I don't need to be compared to a 16 year old boy in front of them.

What's on your perfect pizza?

Another pizza! If someone's already made that joke, then I'm going to quit comedy forever.

what's your favorite quote?
“I don’t want to be a part of any club that would have me as a member”- Groucho Marx

CAB Dive-In: Finding Nemo

“Hey, look. 'Es-CA-pay'. I wonder what that means? That's funny, it's spelled just like the word ‘escape.’”  Dory - Finding Nemo

If you want to make an escape of your own this weekend let CAB take you away with the last dive-in movie of the semester! Pixar’s Finding Nemo will be showing at the CWRC Leisure Pool this Friday at 10:30pm. Relax in the lazy river or hot tub as you go on an underwater adventure with Nemo and the gang. CAB Roads: Mall of America

Not gonna lie, I love to shop. It's one of the joys of life... and ever since I discovered online shopping, I have gotten worse. However here is a chance to go to the Mall of America (the largest mall in America!). So of course I jumped at the chance.

Mall of America (located in Minnesota) is a real treat. If you haven't gone yet you must. I have gone for years with my family. Not only is it an awesome mall but it also has an indoor amusement park with a pretty sweet, not whimpy, rollar coaster :) Snoopy (yes that big white dog) is also there and it is a must to get a picture with him. Legoland is also there. Yes I still own legos, who doesn't?

I am not even going to mention the amazing resturants like Hooters and Bubba Gump and tons of others.

So really what better is there to do with your Saturday (Dec 4th)? I am going shopping either way so I may as well take advantage of this exciting trip! CAB is amazing for bussing me there and back for only $15. And did I mention you also get a ticket to the huge indoor aquatic center?!?!? Sure 6:30 (am) comes early but for sure I will be sleeping on the bus :)

Don't forget Christmas is right about the corner and at the MALL OF AMERICA I am sure you will be able to find something for everyone on your list.
